IRON HORSE Seating 4000 Series HD Tilt Mech Replacement


The following post outlines the required tools and steps needed to replace your IRON HORSE Seating 4000 Series HD Tilt Mechanism. You may also view the IRON HORSE Seating 4000 Series – HD Tilt Mechanism Replacement video as a visual aid to guide you during the replacement process.


REQUIRED TOOLS

  • 3/8” Long-Handle Ratcheting Wrench
  • 9/16” Deepwell Socket
  • 3/8” Electric Impact Gun (Optional)
  • Deadblow Hammer
  • Safety Glasses
  • Cardboard – to protect chair from the floor

 

REQUIRED TOOLS

Step #1 – Prepare Are and Chair for Work

  • Place the chair facing down so the five-star base is in the air.

Step #2 – Removal of HD Tilt Mechanism, Shock, & Five-Star Base

  • Take off the composite bezels from the HD tilt mechanism to allow access to the bolts.
  • Using the 3/8” ratcheting wrench and the 9/16” socket, break loose and remove the four (4) bolts holding the HD tilt mechanism.
  • NOTE – Remove the upper bolts last while holding the HD tilt mechanism to keep it from falling.
  • Remove the old HD tilt mechanism.
  • NOTE – You will remove the shock and five-star base with the HD tilt mechanism as one piece.

Step #3 – Install the New HD Tilt Mechanism

  • Prep your hardware for ease of installation.
  • NOTE – each bolt should consist of one (1) lock washer and two (2) flat washers.
  • Begin by aligning the new HD tilt mechanism to the four (4) bolting points and hand-thread the four (4) bolts.
  • NOTE – Do not tighten the bolts until you complete the next step.
  • Push the HD tilt mechanism up all the way.
  • Tighten the bolts using the ratcheting wrench and 9/16” socket

Step #4 – Reinstall the Shock and Five-Star Base

  • Insert the shock into the HD tilt mechanism.
  • NOTE – You can tap the shock with a hammer to ensure it is properly fixated if needed.
  • Slide the five-star base over the end of the shock.

Step #5 – Install the Casters on the Five-Star Base

  • Push the stem of the caster into the hole located at the end of each leg on the five-star base.
  • NOTE – Make sure there is a washer at the end of the stem before inserting the caster into the base.
